A face-to-face practical course for GPs who require BLS and/or CPR certification as part of their CPD for the RACGP 2023-2025 triennium.

This small-group course (maximum of 8 participants) provides the participant with BLS (Basic Life Support) and CPR knowledge and skills. This course also includes management of an obstructed airway and defibrillation skills with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

 

Upon successful completion, the candidate will be awarded a certificate and awarded 2 CPD Hours (Educational Activities).

 

Learning Outcomes:

1. Respond to a collapsed patient

2. Demonstrate Basic Life Support skills including CPR

3. Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

4. Accurately communicate details of the incident

Introduction and overview

Our instructor will outline the details of the course and answer any questions.

 

The obstructed airway:

Upon completion of this session the candidate will be able to:

• Demonstrate methods for suction, manoeuvres, use of adjuncts, BVM and LMAs.

 

Responding to a collapsed patient:

Upon completion of this session the candidate will be able to:

• Confirm cardiac arrest on a simulated collapsed patient.

• Perform CPR as per Australian Resuscitation Council and HLTAID009 guidelines

• Use a Bag Valve Mask (BVM), airway adjuncts, and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

• Communicate details about this incident.

 

There will be time for a short break during the course.

Tea, coffee and water will be provided, along with notepads and pens.

 

Our experienced course instructors are fully accredited by the Australian Resuscitation Council, providing high quality, interactive educational sessions for the candidates. Our diverse faculty comprises a mix of practicing doctors, nurses and paramedics.
